Her father, David Vanderhoop, is Aquinnah Wampanoag from Neope--Martha's Vineyard--where she was raised. As an educator, Carrie Anne hopes this book will foster in young people a connection with our natural world--and respect for the first peoples of Turtle Island. She lives on Haida Gwaii.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMangeshig Pawis-Steckley\u003c\/strong\u003e is an Anishinaabe artist and a member of the Wasauksing First Nation. His work has garnered many honors, such as the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award, the Indigenous Voices Award, and the Blue Spruce Award.
