by Etan Basseri (Author), Rashin Kheiriyeh (Illustrator)

A warm and colorful story of family, tradition, and kindness set in 1950s Iran--perfect for Passover and year-round reading.

In a small town in Iran, siblings Ezra and Roza are busy helping their family prepare for Passover, the Jewish festival of freedom. There's flour to bring to the synagogue for baking Persian-style matzah, a table to decorate for the seder, and delicious hallaq (Persian charoset) to make. But when an accident ruins their precious matzah, the children must find a way to save their family's holiday--and learn the true meaning of community, generosity, and hospitality.

Inspired by author Etan Basseri's Iranian-Jewish heritage and brought vividly to life by award-winning illustrator Rashin Kheiriyeh, A Persian Passover celebrates the beauty of Jewish life in Iran and the universal values that unite families across cultures.

Included in this book:
  • A historical note about Jews in Persia
  • A glossary of Hebrew and Persian words
  • A recipe for Persian-style charoset (hallaq)

A free downloadable activity guide that highlights the themes in this book is available on the Kalaniot Books website.
